For the past two decades, academia has incorporated two new fields of study: Governance and Global Public Goods. Both have seen significant development in the production of ideas and in the dissemination of a multidisciplinary system of interdependence on a global scale.
The course explores the nexus between national and global public goods, public and private policies, and the governance system.
We will begin the course with a review of the main theoretical currents that have influenced the two models: governability (UN system) and governance (global interdependence system) of national and global public goods.
Next, we will analyze the international frameworks and institutional policies of public goods in the 20th century: the State and the interdependence between national public goods and international organizations.
We will then examine the evolution of the public goods management model in the 21st century: interdependence between governance and global public goods, the inclusion of the private sector/business, regulations, financing, partnership, stakeholders, and decision-making.
Finally, we will study fundamental aspects of the new institutional framework of Governance and Global Public Goods: in particular, the global dynamics of the governance system for global public goods.
